Mazeras® - African Sandstones
Mazeras® is the name of a small village in Kenya near the area where beautiful sandstones are mined.  The stones are named after their place of origin, and we have chosen to make the same apply here and we have therefore maintained that name.

I Kenya they are also know as Maji-Ya Chumvi, which in Swahili means "saltwater". It is quite common to name a natural stone after its place of origin, and this name tells us that they are from the coastal area by the Indian Ocean.

Mazeras® sandstones were formed during the Trias period 208-245million years ago, as part of a lake or delta.
The formation occurs by the heavy weight of water putting pressure on the sand through millions of years. A sandstones primary ingredient is sand, and with the water is brough what 'glues' it together. This can in some places be clay and in other places in the world it is chalk, but for this particular sandstone it is kisel. The 'glue' is determining for the strength of the sandstone, and what makes this particular sandstone so incredibly strong - so strong that it will endure even heavy traffic.
